The Shafer Gallery will host the “McKown Masquerade Ball” for guests ages 21 and over, featuring a costume contest, live music, and hors d'oeuvres at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 4 in the Gallery, and the event also serves as a kickoff party for the “Friends and Acquaintances” Community Art Exhibit, which is underwritten by the Bill J. McKown Memorial Endowment and distributed by the Golden Belt Community Foundation.
Admission is free, but due to alcohol being served, guests must RSVP by phone at (620)792-9342 or via email at shafergallery@bartonccc.edu.
Gallery Director Alyssa Bliven said the show consists of 2D and 3D entries, which will be on display from Sept. 27 through Oct. 26.
“The upcoming ‘Friends & Acquaintances’ show continues our cherished tradition of celebrating local talent and the creativity of those connected to the gallery,” she said. “This year’s exhibition will showcase a diverse array of works from both new and familiar artists, offering an intimate look into the vibrant artistic community that surrounds us.”
Featured Artist: Brian Thayer
Brian has been a steadfast presence in our art community, contributing his talents to the F&A show for several years and actively participating in the local art group, Artists At Large, where he once served as Chair. His artwork spans from abstract compositions to landscapes and seascapes, often drawing from his four years of Navy service. A recurring, delightful theme in his work is his dog, Jack, who appears in various scenes, ‘traveling’ the world. Thayer’s art is a reflection of his personal journey, and we are proud for him to be our featured artist for this exhibition.
